“How much formula feed does my baby need?” One of my good friends asked me at a party some days ago. This is a very common question almost every mom asks especially after weaning. The answer to this question depends on several factors such as baby weight, age, etc. But there are certain common factors that every mom needs to know.

How much formula your baby needs?

During the early months of life allow your baby to determine the amount of formula milk he needs, that means to feed him according to his demand. Always remember that the younger babies need to be fed frequently as they grow so quickly and their nutrient demand is high. By the time your kiddo is six months old and starts eating solids then the amount of formula milk can be decreased.

The age factor for formula feeds

According to studies, from birth to 1-month babies need 8 bottles of milk per day and 2 to 4 ounces of formula every bottle. While this figure changes to 3 bottles of formula milk every day and 7 to 8 ounces of formula at the age of 10–12 months. These figures are for the babies who are totally formula fed. But for the babies who are breastfed or who are fed by the mixture of both the milk, the figures might be different.

The health factor for formula feeds

However, if your baby is gaining weight very slowly, looks dehydrated, has less urine output or cries a lot, these can be signs of getting less formula milk. On the other hand, if the baby vomits after feeding, is gaining weight excessively, experiences colicky pain after feeding, these might be signs that your baby is overfed.

During the first year of life, your kiddo increases in weight by three times and in length by 50 percent. So for all that development, your kiddo needs to be fueled properly by nutritional milk or food. So there is a lot of hard work to do.
