    • At this stage, your child understands your words of appreciation more than ever and thus, encouragement and praise are great ways to get the best out of your child. If your child is shy, a good technique of building confidence is to identify whatever she is good at, and applaud and highlight this. If your quiet little one is good at drawing, make it a point to show her drawings to your guests and praise her highly in her presence. However, keep it real and simple, and don't exaggerate.

    • Asking your child for help is a very effective way to build her confidence. If she is tidy by nature, you can ask her to arrange the table before meals. If she loves to eat, ask her to help you in the kitchen with kid-friendly activities like stirring some flour or washing some fruit. Remember to thank and appreciate her whenever she helps you.

    • Have a talk with your child’s teacher about things she is good at, and request her to highlight those in school and praise her when she is working with her, so that she is encouraged to do better.
