Potty training your child can be a long and puzzling ordeal to go through, for the both of you. Your child is just starting to grasp the fact that she has to pee and poop at appropriate times, but does not know how to do so.
Here are a few tips on helping your kid get potty trained:
1. Start small! Let your child sit on the potty stool for some time, gradually increase the duration, while letting her play and do all her daily activities while on the potty stool. Check if and when she pees or poops and change her into her diapers in the intervening time.
2. Always encourage your child to flush every time after using the potty. Make sure that your child sees how the pee and poop is flushed away and everything is clean again, with sound cues and actions on how the water swirls and cleans everything out. It is a great way to make sure your child remembers maintaining cleanliness.
3. Reward your child every time she goes extended periods of time dry, or when she asks to go to the potty, with small treats, such as pieces of chocolates, stickers and verbal praise for being a good little girl.
4. Make sure that you let your child's playgroup teachers know that you are actively potty training your child, letting them know what the child will usually say when they want to go to the potty so that they too know when your child wants to relive herself.
