5 Tips for Right Bike-riding Posture:

1. Don’t Slouch:

Whether you are seated on a bike or in your office chair, slouching is to be avoided. It is almost natural for the rider’s body to slouch while on a long and tiring bike ride. However, you need to make a conscious choice of avoiding it. Maintain an upright posture while riding your bike. It will help in preventing back pain in the long run.

2. Manage Body Weight:

Many times, riders tend to lose their balance while riding a bike. The body weight tends to shift towards the hands, especially on a sports bike where the seat’s position forces the body to bend forward a bit. In such a scenario, the rider’s body weight is being supported by the hands gripping the bike’s handle. This can cause a lot of pain in the fingers, wrists, and forearms if the position is not comfortable. Manage body weight and find the right balance while riding your bike.

3. Enable Smooth Switching and Braking:

Bikers must deal with the clutch, brakes, and gears constantly. Both limbs are used to execute this act of constant pressing, leaving, and switching. Moreover, everything has to be in sync for proper functioning. Doing this constantly can take a toll on your hands and legs. Thus, keep your bike in prime condition to enable smooth switching of gears and braking. Tight clutch, gear, and brakes can cause aching in the limbs.

4. Refuel and Re-energize:

This isn’t about your bike. It is about you, the rider. You need to take a break while on a long, winding bike trip. Need to refuel yourself. Energize. Riding without replenishments can lead to posture problems. For example, your posture is bound to get affected if you keep riding continuously for several hours. Even if it is a ten-kilometer ride, you can perform basic neck and hand exercises while being seated on your bike while waiting at the signal. Basic stretching can also be helpful to re-energize.

5. Select Comfort Clothing:

Imagine riding a bike for four hours wearing a three-piece suit. It is not going to be comfortable, right? Similarly, wearing tight-fitting clothes, or jackets during summer, and other such wardrobe misjudgments can lead to a disturbing bike ride. Opt for comfort clothing while embarking on a long bike ride. However, do not confuse this with evading safety gear. Note that good safety gear will not get in the way of your comfort.

Bike Insurance: A must for every rider:

Purchasing bike insurance is mandatory as per Indian law if you want to ride your bike legally. Riding without active bike insurance can get you in trouble with the authorities. Thanks to the digital revolution, you can now purchase a bike insurance policy using your smartphone. Make sure to purchase a bike insurance policy that meets your requirements.

It is suggested to opt for a Comprehensive plan rather than a basic one for extensive coverage. Make sure to renew two-wheeler insurance in a timely manner, probably a week before its expiry date. Note that you have the option of looking for a different insurer while you renew two-wheeler insurance.

Maintain the right posture while riding your bike, ride safe, and stay insured.
