But thankfully, the authorities offer the facility to get a duplicate Aadhaar Card in such conditions. The complete process to get a duplicate Aadhaar Card online is easy and simply requires your Enrolment ID or Aadhaar number. You can visit the official portal of the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) to complete the process. The following steps will help you get your duplicate Aadhaar Card copy online.
Step 1: Visit the official UIDAI website.
Step 2: Select “Download Aadhaar”.
Step 3: Move to the “I have” section and choose between the options “Aadhaar Number”, “Virtual ID”, and “Enrolment ID”, based on which detail you can provide.
Step 4: Now enter personal details like your name, registered contact number, and email address.
Step 5: Verify with the provided captcha, then select “Get One Time Password”.
Step 6: Enter the OTP sent to your registered mobile number and “Validate & Download”.
The PDF format of your e-Aadhaar will be downloaded on your device. However, the download PDF will be encrypted with a password. You can use the PIN code of your address to open this document.
Note: If the OTP takes too long to come to your mobile number, you can consider another option called “Verify with Email/Mobile Number”. After verifying, you can complete the process again to download a copy of your Aadhaar Card.
There are two offline options you can use to get a duplicate Aadhaar Card.
Here are the steps you can follow to get your Aadhaar card copy over a phone call.
Step 1: Call the toll-free number of the UIDAI: 1800-180-1947.
Step 2: Follow the instructions of the IVR or Interactive Voice Response to choose to talk to a human executive.
Step 3: Explain your reason for requesting a duplicate Aadhaar to the executive.
Step 4: Answer the identity verification questions asked by the executive.
Step 5: After verification, you will get approval for a fresh copy of the Aadhaar Card.
Step 6: The duplicate copy of your Aadhaar will reach your residential address through speed post.
Another offline method to get your Aadhaar copy is by directly visiting an Aadhaar Enrolment Centre nearby.
Step 1: Visit one of the local Aadhaar Enrolment Centres.
Step 2: Request an Aadhaar correction application form and add accurate details to it.
Step 3: Submit the duly filled out application at the Aadhaar Executive’s desk or Aadhaar Registrar desk.
Step 4: You will be asked to provide your Aadhaar number while making a request for a duplicate document. If you don’t know or forget this number, the officials will note your biometrics for identity verification.
Step 5: Upon verification, the officials will send your Aadhaar card via post to your home address.
Usually, there is no need to produce any document to get a duplicate Aadhaar Card. Your information remains stored with the UIDAI. So, you can simply provide one of the following details to obtain a duplicate copy of your Aadhaar.

At the time of original Aadhaar issuance, you get an acknowledgement slip containing an Enrolment ID or EID. You can use this EID, or the Aadhaar number (UID) mentioned on your card at the time of requesting a duplicate copy. If you somehow lose your enrolment ID or Aadhaar number, it is possible to retrieve them using the following steps.
Step 1: Visit the official UIDAI portal.
Step 2: Move to the section named “Aadhaar Online Services” and select “Aadhaar Enrolment”.
Step 3: Click on the Lost EID/UID retrieval option.
Step 4: Upon reaching the next screen, you can choose between “Enrolment Number” and “Aadhaar Number” for retrieval.
Step 5: Add mandatory details such as your name, email address and mobile number accurately.
Step 6: Verify with captcha and hit the button named “Send One Time Password (OTP)”.
Step 7: Enter the OTP sent to your registered mobile number or email address for verification.
Step 8: Receive your EID/UID to your registered email address or contact number. Now, you can use your Enrolment ID or Aadhaar number to obtain a copy of your Aadhaar Card.
Using a duplicate copy of an Aadhaar Card doesn’t impact its validity. However, you can use the UIDAI portal to confirm the validity status of your Aadhaar. Here are the steps for the same.
Step 1: Visit the UIDAI platform.
Step 2: Move to “Aadhaar Online Services” and select “Verify an Aadhaar Number”.
Step 3: Enter your Aadhaar number and verify with the provided captcha.
Step 4: Check the validity of your document.
You will see a green check mark on the final screen, denoting that your Aadhaar is in a valid state.

It may take about 15 working days for your duplicate Aadhaar card to reach your home address.
