This world health day we will focus on the positive impact yoga has on your body. Yoga is an ancient art, that is said to have originated in India around 3000 B.C. Rather than focusing on aggressive techniques to tone the body, yoga emphasizes on both mental and physical health while creating a balance between the two to achieve great health.
Various old scripts or texts define yoga in different forms that eventually add up to yoga being the ultimate art to harness the divine energy for creating a prosperous and healthy mind and body. Let us take a look at what you can achieve by regularly practicing yoga in the modern day.

One of the major benefits of regularly practicing yoga is that you will not feel lethargic and dull. On the contrary, you will notice that you are making the most out of your day. Where you just can’t wait to crash on the bed at the end of the day, you may now feel like engaging in conversations or taking a walk after dinner. The new possibilities are endless.
For those who are beginning with yoga with a specific goal in mind, like for improving energy levels, can practice yoga postures like Bhujangasana (cobra pose), Dhanurasana (Bow Pose), Vriksasana (Tree Pose), Setu Bandha Sarvangasana (Bridge Pose), etc.
If practiced regularly, yoga can have immense benefits for improving focus and concentration. A beginner can consider practicing the Tadasana (mountain pose) and Vrikshasana (Tree Pose) to channelize their energy for improving focus. For the flexible lot, Garudasana (Eagle Pose), Natarajasana (Dancer Pose), or Bakasana (Crane Pose) will do the trick.
Apart from practicing other poses that will improve your overall health, you can emphasize on a few that will help you build flexibility. The main centers of your body that need to be targeted for this purpose are hamstrings, legs, and spins. When you are able to stretch them adequately and without pain, you will begin feeling flexible. However, for starters, you can concentrate on your hands and back bending with the help of Bhujangasana (cobra pose) and Matsyasana (Fish Pose) or even the Ardha Matsyendrasana (Simple Spinal Twist). You can then move on to Garudasana (Eagle Pose), Natarajasana (Dancer Pose), Bakasana (Crane Pose), or Paschimottanasana (Seated Forward Bend).
To achieve the correct stature for performing yoga, one needs to draw strength from their muscles. Yoga requires you to stretch, bear the weight of your body, and breath in a peculiar fashion. This, along with flexibility also builds muscle strength and power. The ones who regularly practice yoga will find themselves achieving more in a day than they used to before.
In the beginning, you would want to perform yoga exercises from shorter periods of time which could gradually increase depending upon how well your body adjusts to the strain. The longer you are able to hold a position, the better you get at yoga and build strength to perform in other walks of life.
Unlike, vigorous forms of exercise, Yoga is a form that does not solely focus on weight loss. It is more about building your core strength, focus, and peace of mind. However, modern yoga techniques like power yoga (yoga poses+heat) can help in burning calories. Traditional poses like Paripurna Navasana (Boat Pose), Utthita Parsvakonasana (Extended Side Angle Pose), Chaturanga Dandasana (Four-Limbed Staff Pose), Purvottanasana (Upward Plank Pose), Urdhva Mukha Svanasana (Upward-Facing Dog Pose), and Virabhadrasana (A form of the warrior pose) can also help in controlling weight to a great extent. It is advised that one should combine another form of exercise like aerobics, walking, or swimming with yoga to achieve success in a shorter duration to achieve weight loss.
Regularly practicing yoga is said to have high health benefits. It is more of a proactive measure taken to reduce the impact of various ailments. Thus, yoga is mostly not covered by health insurance.
