People living in Assam have the option to submit an online or offline application for Driving Licence.
Here are the key steps to apply for Driving Licence online in Assam.
Step 1: Visit https://parivahan.gov.in/parivahan/.
Step 2: Make your way to the Sarathi Parivahan platform through the “Online Services” tab and the “Driving Licence Related Services” option.
Step 3: Choose “Assam” and get to the “Apply for Learner’s Licence (LL)” section.
Step 4: Apply for Learner Licence online with the necessary details and documents to book your LL examination slot.
Step 5: Go through the preliminary exam to acquire your LL.
Step 6: Head to the Parivahan platform again and follow the same path to pick the “Apply for DL” option this time.
Step 7: Upload documents and pick your test slot.
Step 8: Make the payment as requested and print its receipt.
Step 9: Visit the city RTO to appear for your exam with the printed payment receipt.
Once the verification is done (after passing the test), the RTO will send the new DL to your registered residential address.
Here is how you can apply for Driving Licence offline in Assam.
Step 1: Head to the RTO near your home address and collect an LL application form.
Step 2: Fill in the offline application and submit it along with the supporting documents.
Step 3: Clear your LL test to obtain the initial licence to practice your skills.
Step 4: Apply for DL as an LL holding candidate, pay the processing charges and select a test slot after 30 days of LL issuance.

Step 1: Via the Parivahan portal, you need to access the Sarathi platform under your state name (Assam).
Step 2: Find and click on the option named “Application Status”.
Step 3: Provide your application’s unique number, your birth date and verify with the captcha.
Step 4: Upon hitting the “Submit” button, you should be able to view the application status.
The following are the key factors related to the driving test procedure in Assam.
The RTO appoints an inspector to conduct and assess the driving test.
The officer holds the right to decide whether a candidate passes or fails the exam.
The examination takes place in two steps called the ground exam and road exam.
The ground test is to check the on-ground skills of candidates by asking them to drive in patterns like “8”, “H”, etc.
The road test is to check the on-road skills of candidates by asking them to drive in compliance with traffic rules.
In case of failing the test, it is possible to apply once again after seven days.

Here are the key eligibility factors related to applying for a permanent Driving Licence in Assam.
One can submit a Driving Licence application if they are 18 years of age or above.
The application for a transport DL requires one to be at the age of 21 or above.
The application for a gearless vehicle DL requires one to be at the age of 16 years or above.
An applicant must apply and obtain a Learning Licence before requesting a DL.

These are the steps you can follow for Driving Licence renewal online in Assam.
Step 1: Visit the Sarathi portal through the Parivahan portal and select “Assam”.
Step 2: Click “Apply for DL renewal” and enter your DL details for the online renewal of Driving Licence in Assam.
Step 3: Fill in the online application, provide your documents and make the payment online.
Step 4: Print out the receipt and visit the RTO for verification if required.
The RTO in your city will require a few days to verify your application and prepare the renewed DL. Once verified, they will send the DL to the registered address via speed post.
In case you lose or damage the physical document of your Driving Licence, it is possible to request a duplicate DL in Assam.

You can get a 12-month permit to drive in foreign countries by applying for an International Driving Permit or IDP in Assam.

The RTO department will require about 7 working days to mail/post your IDP in Assam.
