All of the data stated above might prompt you to purchase a motor vehicle and hit the roads of Chattisgarh. However, before driving your vehicle in the state, you must obtain a valid driving licence (DL). Without a DL, you cannot drive legally in the state.

Before applying for a DL, you must understand the types of DLs you can apply for. The following are the different types of driving licences issued in Chhattisgarh:
Light Motor Vehicle DL: Individuals who want to drive a light vehicle can apply for this licence.
Two-Wheeler With Gear DL: Individuals who want to ride bikes with gear should apply for this licence.
Two-Wheeler Without Gear DL: Individuals who want to ride a bike without gear, like a moped, can apply for this type of DL.

Once you know the type of DL you want, it is time to apply for it. In Chhattisgarh, there are two ways to apply for a DL, the online method and the offline method.
To apply online, follow the steps below:
Visit the official Parivahan website.
After reaching the home screen, navigate and click on 'Online Services'.
Click on 'DL-Related Services'.
After clicking, you will be redirected to Sarathi.
Choose your state and click on 'Apply for LL'.
Submit the form with the required documents.
Pay the applicable fees.
Go for the LL test.
Clear the test to get a learner’s licence.
Wait for a month and then apply for a DL by visiting the Parivahan site.
Fill out the form with the required details.
Choose the appropriate driving test slot.
Pay the applicable fees.
Download the receipt for future reference.
Go to the nearest RTO in Chhattisgarh to take the driving test.
An officer will assess your driving. Once the test is cleared, you will proceed with the biometrics. After all the processes are completed, the RTO will dispatch the DL to your registered address.
Follow the steps below to apply for a DL in Chhattisgarh offline:
Visit the nearest RTO to get the form. Alternatively, you can download the form by visiting the Parivahan website.
Fill out the form and submit the document to your nearest RTO.
Choose your slot for the LL test and note the application number.
Use the application ID to attend the LL test.

Visit the RTO on the chosen date to take the test.

Visit the official Parivahan Site.
Select your state.
Navigate to and click on 'Application Status.'
Fill in your date of birth and application number, and complete the captcha.
Click on 'Submit' to see your DL application status.
Before issuing your DL, the RTO officials will check if you can pass the driving test. In the driving test, the RTO will assign a vehicle inspector who will assess your driving skills to ensure you are fit to drive in Chhattisgarh.
The driving test differs for cars and bikes. The following section highlights the driving test process for two and four-wheelers.
There are two types of tests for two-wheelers: road and ground tests.
You must ride your vehicle on T and 8-patterned tracks in the ground test without stopping.
During the road test, you will ride your bike on a public road to assess your traffic knowledge.
If the officials are unhappy with the test, you will have to apply again after waiting for 7 days.
You will have to pass ground and road tests.
In the ground test, you will drive a car on T and U-patterned tracks.
You will have to drive on a public road in the road test to assess your traffic knowledge.
If the RTO officials are unhappy with your driving, you will have to wait for 7 days and reapply for the driving test.

To get a driving licence in Chhattisgarh, you will have to fulfil the following criteria:
You must be over 18 years old.
Your LL should not be older than 6 months.
You must clear the DL and LL tests for a permanent DL.
