Haryana is a North Indian state that shares its borders with New Delhi, Punjab, Rajasthan, and Himachal Pradesh. It’s known for its deep-rooted history of handicrafts and folk music. At the same time, the state has also managed to become one of the top business hubs in the country. This consistent growth has increased the number of transport and non-transport vehicles on its roads.
Note that one needs to obtain a Driving Licence (DL) from the state RTO to legally drive/ride a transport or a non-transport vehicle. To help you with the process, this article shows how you can apply for a Driving Licence in Haryana.

There are five major types of Driving Licences you can apply for in Haryana.

You can submit an application for a Driving Licence in Haryana via online or offline methods.
Here are the online steps for an online Driving Licence application in Haryana.
Step 1: First, you need to apply for a Learner’s Licence (LL) using the Parivahan Sewa digital portal.
Step 2: Move to the section called “Services related to DL” via the “Online Service” tab.
Step 3: You will be directed to the Sarathi platform, where you must choose your state “Haryana” to get to the choice of LL application.
Step 4: Completing the LL application will get you an ID and an appointment for a preliminary test.
Step 5: You can obtain your LL on the same day after successfully completing the exam.
Step 6: Now, head to the Sarathi portal again to make an application for a permanent licence by submitting the documents and getting a slot booked.
Step 7: You will have to visit the RTO for the driving licence test with the receipt of the application.
Step 8: Upon passing the exam, you will be asked to give your biometric details at the end of the day.
In a few days, the RTO will complete the standard verification process and then dispatch the permanent licence to your house address.
Here are the steps for offline Driving Licence application in Haryana.
Step 1: Start by downloading Form 2 via the Parivahan Sewa digital portal.
Step 2: Fill the form for LL application and visit the nearby RTO to submit it along with the necessary documentation and payable fee.
Step 3: You will receive a unique number usable at the time of the LL exam.
Step 4: Appear for the exam and get the LL to be held while practising driving.
Step 5: Apply for a DL at the RTO and decide on a date for the driving test to be conducted in a month’s time.
Step 6: Appear for the main driving exam at the same RTO office.
After that, the RTO department will take some time for document verification in order to dispatch the licence.
Using the Sarathi platform, you can track the status of your DL application in Haryana.
Step 1: Through the digital portal called the Sarathi Parivahan, you can get to the online transport services available in your state.
Step 2: Select the tab named “Application Status” and add details of your application.
Step 3: The status of your DL application should be visible to you now.
The following are the factors related to the driving test process in Haryana.
The RTO assigns an inspector to watch over the driving test process.
The inspector conducts the road and ground tests to evaluate the performance of a candidate.
The candidate has to drive/ride in patterns like “H”, “8”, and “T”.
The candidate must also showcase awareness of traffic rules during this test.
A retest is applicable, but you have to wait for at least 7 consecutive days after the first one.

Here are the key eligibility criteria to get a Driving Licence in Haryana.
The candidate must be a citizen of India.
The candidate should be 16 years/older to apply for a gearless two-wheeler DL.
The candidate should be 18 years/older to apply for a geared two-wheeler or four-wheeler DL.
The candidate should be 20 years/older to apply for a heavy or commercial vehicle DL.
The candidate must be an LL holder.
The candidate must be able to provide the required documentation.
When applying for DL in Haryana, make sure you keep the following documents handy.
Learner’s Licence (Not older than 6 months)
Physical fitness certificate (Form 1 with self-declaration)
Medical Certificate under Form 1A (if you’re older than the age of 40 when applying)
Passport pictures of the applicant
Address and age-associated documents (Aadhaar card, Birth Certificate, etc.)
DL application in Form 2

Here is how the duplicate DL application process works in Haryana.
Step 1: Make your way to the Sarathi portal via the Parivahan platform.
Step 2: Apply for a duplicate Driving Licence by following the instructions, and download the resulting receipt.
Step 3: Head to the city RTO with the documents so they can verify your case and issue the licence.
Note: You won’t be able to apply for a duplicate DL after 6 months of losing the original.

Here are the steps you must follow for an IDP application in Haryana.
Step 1: Select “Apply for International Driving Permit” available on the Sarathi portal.
Step 2: Fill out your application following the instructions and get the receipt.
Step 3: Take the receipt and other documents to the RTO.
At the RTO, the officials will verify your documents and then dispatch the IDP.
