Rajasthan, the desert state of India, is known for its royal forts and colourful culture. The grandeur of the state attracts tourist attention all year long. Hence, the roads of Rajasthan experience a mix of locals and tourists moving around, resulting in a flood of vehicles.
To maintain a smooth transport system, the RTOs in the state are instrumental in implementing the rules as per The Motor Vehicles Act, 1988. One of the primary rules in this act is that only valid Driving Licence (DL) holders are allowed to drive vehicles on the roads. That’s why you must apply for a DL before riding/driving a vehicle on public roads. Read on to learn different ways to apply for a driving licence in Rajasthan.

Depending on the validity and type of vehicle, the RTO in Rajasthan issues the following kinds of Driving Licences.

You can choose to submit your Driving Licence application online or offline as per your convenience.
Here are the steps you must follow for an online application for a Driving Licence in Rajasthan.
Step 1: Visit the official portal of RTO Parivahan Sewa.
Step 2: On the home screen, you will find “Online Services” among different tabs. Inside that, you must click on “Driving Licence Related Services”.
Step 3: On the Sarathi platform, choose “Rajasthan” and move inside the option “Apply for LL/Learner’s Licence”.
Step 4: Add details, upload documents and pay the fee to apply for LL.
Step 5: Upon passing the LL test, you will get your initial licence.
Step 6: Once your LL gets 30 days old, you can apply for a permanent licence via the Sarathi website.
Step 7: Apply for DL with the requested documents and charges.
Step 8: Appear for your licence test at the RTO office in your city.
Following the test process, the RTO officials will verify your documents and then deliver the DL to your home through the speed post.

Here are the steps for offline application for a Driving Licence in Rajasthan.
Step 1: Download the application Form 2 via Parivahan and fill it out for Learner’s Licence.
Step 2: Visit an RTO in your area with the application and documents.
Step 3: Submit the application and documents, and pay the fee to take your LL test.
Step 4: Complete the application for a permanent licence to get your driving test slot.
Step 5: Appear for the practical exam in a month’s time with the acknowledgement receipt obtained at the time of submitting the application.
The permanent DL will reach your home address in a few days.

Step 1: Go to the Sarathi website.
Step 2: Move to the option to check for the status of the application visible on the top menu.
Step 3: Fill in the requested details to retrieve the application status.
In order to get a permanent Driving Licence, you must take an exam showcasing your driving competence. The procedure for this exam includes the following.
Ground and road tests are conducted in both two-wheeler and four-wheeler driving examinations.
During the ground test, you drive or ride your vehicle in different patterns in a private space.
In the road test, you drive or ride on a public road to show that you know all basic traffic laws.
The procedure is handled by an official appointed by the RTO.
The official decides whether you pass or fail the examination.

Here are some of the key eligibility factors regarding Driving Licence in Rajasthan.
Applicants must be minimum of 16 years of age to apply for a gearless vehicle DL.
Applicants must be minimum of 18 years of age to apply for a geared vehicle DL.
Applicants must be minimum of 20 years of age to apply for a transport/commercial vehicle DL.
Possession of a valid Learner’s Licence (not older than 6 months) is required for a DL applicant.

Age proof, such as birth certificate, educational certificates, etc.
Address proof, such as passport, voter card, ration card, etc.
LL copy
PAN card copy
Photographs taken in passport size
Medical Certificate (Form 1A if you apply at the age of 40 years or above)
Physical fitness (Self-attested Form 1)

Here are the steps you can take to apply for the renewal of an expired DL in Rajasthan.
Step 1: Find “Apply for DL renewal” by visiting the Sarathi platform online and selecting “Rajasthan”.
Step 2: Add all requested details, upload documentation, and pay the fee to receive your acknowledgement of the application.
Step 3: Take the printed copy of the acknowledgement to the RTO for verification and DL renewal.
DL duplication is required in case you damage or lose the originally issued document. In Rajasthan, this process involves the following steps.
Step 1: Through the Sarathi portal, you can pick “Rajasthan” and reach the “Apply for a duplicate Driving Licence” option.
Step 2: Go to the RTO with a printed copy of the acknowledgement with the necessary documents for verification.
Step 3: Let the RTO officials verify your case to dispatch the duplicate licence.
Please note that you will have to apply within 180 days of theft/loss of DL.
If you need an International Driving Permit or IDP, the following steps will help with the process of application in Rajasthan.
Step 1: Using the Sarathi Parivahan platform, you can access the RTO services in your state.
Step 2: Among different services, you need to select “Apply for IDP”.
Step 3: Give your information and submit your IDP application.
Step 4: Print the acknowledgement and go to the RTO in your area for verification.
Step 5: Wait for the RTO to finish application verification and send the IDP to you.

You can take as many attempts as required to pass the DL test. But you will need to keep a seven-day gap between two attempts.
