Bangalore, the IT capital of India, attracts people from all over the country. That's a prime reason for the ever-increasing number of vehicles in the city. And if you want to ride/drive a vehicle legally, you need to have certain documents. One of the mandatory documents to ride/drive a vehicle in Bengaluru is the Driving Licence (DL).
It is mandatory to hold a valid DL to drive/ride a motor vehicle in India as per the rules and regulations of The Motor Vehicles Act. Note that such a licence is valid for only a certain number of years, and you need to renew it before expiry. Here are the steps for online Driving Licence renewal in Bangalore.
Step 1: Visit the official website of RTO Bangalore.
Step 2: Select the “Driving Licence Related Services” under the “Parivahan” drop-down menu.
Step 3: You will land on the “Parivahan” page. Select the “Apply for DL Renewal” option.
Step 4: On the next page, you will see the instructions to apply for various DL services. Scroll down to the bottom and click “Continue”.
Step 5: Enter your DL number and date of birth, fill in the captcha code and click on “Get DL Details”.
Step 6: Verify the details and click “Yes”. Next, select the “Submit Request” option and select the state as Karnataka.
Step 7: Choose the RTO. If you select a different RTO than the original one for DL services, you also need to apply for a change of address and an additional fee of Rs. 200.
Step 8: Next, select “Renewal of DL”, fill in the online application form and upload the soft copies of the required documents.
Step 9: Pay the required fees online and download the receipt. Post document verification, you will receive the renewed DL.
Here are the offline steps for the renewal of the Driving Licence in Bangalore.
Step 1: Obtain the DL renewal form from the RTO office or download it online from the Bangalore RTO website.
Step 2: Fill in the application and gather all the required documents.
Step 3: Visit the RTO office and submit the duly filled application form along with the relevant documents.
Step 4: Pay the applicable fees at the fee collection counter and collect the acknowledgement receipt. The renewed DL will be mailed to your residential address post document verification.

The grace period for Driving Licence renewal in Bangalore is 30 days. If you apply for DL renewal after 30 days of its expiry, you must pay an additional fee of Rs. 300.

Instead, the application will be considered as a new Driving Licence, and one needs to apply for an LL before submitting a request for the issuance of a Driver’s Licence.
