The rules and regulations under The Motor Vehicles Act state that an individual requires a valid Driving Licence (DL) to drive a motor vehicle.
A DL comes with a validity of a few years, and you must renew it before expiry to avoid a breach of law.

It is important to renew your driving license on time as it is a mandatory requirement. If you miss to do so and drive your vehicle in Telangana without a renewed policy, then Telangana e-challan will be issued on your name.
Here are the steps for the renewal of the DL online in Telangana.
Step 1: Visit the official website of RTO Telangana.
Step 2: Click on "Renewal of Licence" under Driving Licence.
Step 3: Click on the "Continue Slot Booking" button.
Step 4: Go through the instructions and click "Continue"
Step 5: Read the self-declaration and click on "I Agree".
Step 6: On the next page, select "Renewal of DL" and click the "Go" button.
Step 7: Input details like your DL number, licence issuance RTO, date of birth, and mobile number.
Step 8: Click on "Request OTP", enter the OTP, and input the captcha code.
Step 9: Pay the applicable fees online and download/print the acknowledgement receipt.
You can follow the steps mentioned below for offline DL renewal in Telangana.
Step 1: Obtain the necessary application forms from the RTO or download them via Telangana RTO’s official website.
Step 2: Fill out the forms with correct information and provide your signatures wherever required.

Form 1 (Physical fitness self-declaration)
Form 1A (Medical Certificate for transport vehicle DL renewal or if the applicant is of over 40 years of age)

The Driving Licence renewal grace period in Telangana stands at 30 days after the licence expiry. Post that period, you have to pay an additional fee to submit the renewal application.

You should renew your Driving Licence before its expiry in Telangana for the following reasons.
An expired Driving Licence is as good as having no licence. Driving a vehicle with an expired DL is illegal, and you can be penalised for the same.
If the Driving Licence is expired for more than a year, you have to appear for a driving test to renew the DL. You also end up paying additional fees for the renewal.

Step 2: Click on “New LL in place of expired Learner’s Licence” from the Learner Licence section.
Step 3: Click on the “Continue Slot Booking” button.
Step 4: Click on “Continue” after reading the instructions and then click on “I Agree” after reading the self-declaration.
Step 5: Select “New Learner’s Licence in place of expired LL” under transaction type.
Step 6: Input your LL number and mobile number and click on “Request for OTP”.
