Tip Number 1 – Remove Stagnant Water

Many a times, flower pots and containers store stagnant water and become a breeding ground for mosquitoes. Mosquito bites can lead to deadly diseases. Thus, you must take precautionary measures. Ensure that there is no stagnant water in the house or in the vicinity. Use mosquito repellents and nets if required.

Tip Number 2 – Drink Pure Water

People tend to drink less water in the monsoon season as compared to the summer. Irrespective of the season, your body needs a basic amount of water as per individual requirements. Make it a point to drink purified/boiled water in the rainy season. Avoid beverages where you feel that the ice/water used might not be pure, example – roadside juice vendors. Carry your own purified/boiled drinking water while you are travelling.

Tip Number 3 – Avoid Street Food

Street food is delicious and always alluring. However, one needs to put health first in the rainy season and avoid eating street food. The front-end of your street food counter might be hygienic but we are not entirely sure about the cooking area and the quality of the ingredients used. Yes, these points hold true during all seasons but we need to be extra cautious in the monsoon because of the health risks associated with it. It is better to rely on home-cooked food instead of street food during the rainy season.

Tip Number 4 – Avoid Eating Pre-cut Fruits and Vegetables

Bacteria and germs tend to accumulate in pre-cut fruits and vegetables. Cut fruits and vegetables when you intend to eat/cook, do not precut. Clean leafy vegetables thoroughly.

Tip Number 5 – Don’t Walk in Dirty Water

Walking in dirty water can expose your feet to viruses and bacteria. Try to avoid stepping into the puddles of water on the road. If you happen to step in one, change your footwear immediately on reaching home. Keeping a pair of shoes and socks at your workplace is also a good idea.

Tip Number 6 – Bathe Well

Bathing well and cleaning yourself after you return home is a nice way of staying hygienic. This not only keeps us fresh but negates any impact of contact with impure water on the road.

Tip Number 7 – Avoid Wet Walls

Heavy rainfall can take a toll on your house’s walls from the inside. Wet walls and fungus have a steady partnership. Avoid leaning on and getting in contact with wet walls, especially if you are asthmatic. Maintain a distance from wet walls as it can lead to allergies. Consider taking adequate measures if the problem is persistent.

Health Insurance Policy

Another way of being proactive this monsoon season is to go for an appropriate health insurance policy. Whether your employer provides you mediclaim or doesn’t provide you mediclaim, it is suggested that you purchase a medical insurance plan for yourself and your loved ones. Nowadays, medical insurance plans can be purchased online. You do need to be an expert. Just visit insurers’ websites, read about the inclusions and exclusions of the medical insurance plans offered and select the most appropriate one based on the premium and coverage.

Make wise choices this monsoon and stay healthy.
