Ayushman Bharat Health Account (ABHA) is a financial tool introduced under the Ayushman Bharat scheme by the Indian government. It is a specialised health account that is designed to provide convenience and hassle-free experiences while availing various healthcare services. Similar to Aadhaar, which offers a unified identification for Indian citizens, ABHA provides an Unified Health Interface where patients can share their medical histories seamlessly. Various other services like storing health insurance records, medication history, etc. are also available under ABHA.
Senior citizens are usually out of health insurance owing to their higher age. The most important political move by the cabinet ministers is that Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana will cover those above 70 years of age irrespective of their family income. The move aims at benefiting more than six crore seniors with a family health cover up to ₹5 lakh. Those already enrolled in other government schemes can opt to switch to AB PM-JAY.
Following are the benefits of creating an ABHA ID for yourself and your family.
Say goodbye to the hassle of managing piles of physical documents. With ABHA, you can store all your health-related documents – from hospital records to laboratory's diagnostics and health insurance claims details – in one secure, digital personal health locker. Rest assured, your data remains confidential and accessible only to you.
Need to share your health records with a healthcare provider or insurer? ABHA makes it easy! Simply provide your ABHA ID, and authorised parties can securely access your documents, saving you time and effort.
Waiting for insurance claims approval can be tedious. By linking your insurance policy to your ABHA ID, you can expedite the process. Hospitals can access your policy details swiftly, accelerating cashless claims approval and ensuring smooth healthcare experiences.
The UHI initiative is part of the government's plan to use technology to improve healthcare in India. It aims to solve problems like making healthcare easier to access, more affordable, and better quality. By bringing everything together on one platform, like ABHA, the UHI wants to fill in the gaps in the healthcare system and make sure patients are at the centre of their care.
If you resonate with any of the following scenarios, creating an ABHA account is a smart move.
Are you already on the lookout for ABHA? Then you have the advantage of availing these services early on. This is because the authorities may soon make ABHA mandatory (just like your Aadhaar or PAN card).
Imagine if you can just walk into a hospital with your ABHA card, give access to your healthcare professional, and avail medical treatment. All your medical history, your health insurance details, treatment plans visible to them with a few clicks. No need to carry a file or remember your medical history. As hassle-free as that!
Are you intrigued by India's digital health future and eager to explore the latest features from ACKO, a digital leader in the insurance industry? Creating an ABHA ID is your ticket to experiencing cutting-edge digital healthcare solutions firsthand. This is particularly advantageous as major hospitals like AIIMS are already adopting ABHA as a mandatory requirement to avail healthcare.
Stay ahead of the curve by proactively creating your ABHA number. By doing so, you'll be well-prepared to reap the benefits that ABHA has to offer in the future, ensuring that you're not left behind in India's digital health revolution.
Is your hospital integrated with ABHA? By creating an ABHA ID, you can seamlessly receive your hospital documents through a Personal Health Record (PHR) app. It's a convenient way to stay organised and informed about your medical history and treatments.
Every Indian citizen stands to benefit from creating their ABHA account. According to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare in a memo signed by Manoj Goel, CGHS Director, the linking of CGHS beneficiary IDs with ABHA IDs is necessary under the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission, effective from April 1, 2024. It is all about making things more smoother and well integrated for all participants in the health programs.
CGHS is a health insurance scheme for Central Government employees that offers a sum insured of up to Rs. 5 lakhs for medical expenses. Some procedures are as much as 80% cheaper under the CGHS as in the case of private hospitals. For example, the private hospital may charge for hip replacement surgery between ₹230,000 to ₹500,000 while the government hospital charges a total of ₹82,000 on an average. The beneficiaries must now link their CGHS ID with ABHA.
At present, over 4.4 million individuals across 75 cities benefit from this program. However, the linkage of CGHS IDs with ABHA ID remains relatively low, with only 21,362 connections recorded as of April 2, as per data accessible through the CGHS dashboard.
Here are the steps:
Go to https://cghs.nic.in and click on ‘Beneficiaries’ > ‘Beneficiary login’.
Enter beneficiary ID, password, and captcha and sign in
Next, go to ‘Update’ > ‘Create/Link ABHA ID’ >
‘I don’t have ABHA number’ if you don’t have an ABHA ID
‘Link Using ABHA Number’ if you have an ABHA ID
Enter your Aadhaar Number and verify the same with an OTP.
If all the information is entered correctly, the linking process will be successful and you can print your ABHA card.
The ABHA system offers a seamless way to digitally manage and exchange health records. With its distinctive 14-digit ABHA ID, users can effortlessly access features such as storing health data, managing insurance information, granting access to preferred healthcare providers, and beyond. This advancement marks a significant step in India's ongoing journey towards digital transformation in healthcare.
