According to the World Bank, 34% of the Indian population consists of 'workers' due to the nature of their job. A majority of these workers fall below the poverty line (BPL) as their livelihood comes from daily wages. Things like children’s education, skills training, etc., can be a huge challenge when fulfilling basic necessities itself is a struggle. Thus, the Janashree Bima Yojana Scheme was introduced to tackle this challenge. JBY full form is Janashree Bima Yojana was introduced by the Indian government and the Life Insurance Corporation of India in 2000. This plan was developed to offer urban and rural residents life insurance. Most notably, this programme concentrates on individuals who are living in poverty. The programme currently covers 45 distinct occupational groups. It primarily consists of the Rural Group Life Insurance Scheme and the Social Security Group Insurance Scheme.
Following are the benefits of the Bima Yojana Scheme for its beneficiaries.
The legal heir will receive Rs. 30,000/- if the member dies of natural causes.
The legal heir will receive Rs. 75,000/- if the member dies due to an accident.
The beneficiary will be paid Rs. 75,000/- in the event of permanent total disability as a result of the accident.
The beneficiary will be paid Rs. 75,000/- if they lose both eyes, hands, and legs or one eye and one limb due to an accident.
If a beneficiary loses an eye or a limb in an accident, they will receive Rs. 37,500/-.
Rs. 5,000 in maternity benefits for the registered domestic worker.
After being diagnosed with invasive malignancies (malignant tumours) in the breast, Cervix uteri, Cervix uteri, ovaries, fallopian tubes, vulva, and vagina, the patient can claim a treatment fee of Rs. 20,000.
A malignant tumour is one that starts in one of the aforementioned anatomical areas and is characterised by the unchecked growth and spread of cancerous cells, as well as the invasion of tissue.
Scholarships will be paid for a maximum of 4 (four) years at a rate of Rs. 600 per child per half-year.
Benefits are only available to families with two children.
The scholarship is payable each January and July.
The scheme's subscription fee is Rs. 200/- per member. State Government/Nodal Agency members shall pay 50% of the premium. The Social Security Fund will cover the remaining 50% of the premium. Self Help Groups (SHGs), NGOs, Panchayats, and other institutional arrangements are examples of Nodal Agencies.

Following conditions are not covered under the Janashree Bima Yojana.
1. All tumours that are histologically classified as being pre-malignant.
2. Every tumour that is classified as a carcinoma in situ.
3. Cervix dysplasia (CIN I, CINII, CIN III)

This initiative focuses on those who are Below Poverty Line or just above it.
About half of the premium is paid by the applicant, the state government, or a nodal organisation.
The premium is Rs. 200 per individual.
It is a government insurance programme that was established in collaboration with LIC.
The remaining 50% is paid by the Social Security Fund.
The Janashree Bima Yojana Scheme gives members of female self-help groups a special service. This programme offers them Rs. 30,000 for one year to help with their children's schooling.
Nodal agencies can be thought of as self-help organisations, NGOs, panchayats, or other types of institutional organisations.
Additionally, there is a provision for children whose parents are JBY participants. Every six months, two children per household enrolled in grades 11 or 12 are eligible for a scholarship worth Rs. 600.

The person must be between the ages of 18 and 60.
A person should be living in poverty or just above it.
A minimum of 25 people should be members.
Ideally, one should belong to a nodal organisation or professional group.
Applying for the Janashree Bima Yojana (JBY) Scheme Online is currently not possible. However, you may apply via the nodal organisation or the self-help organisation to which they belong. Any LIC office could be used as an additional application medium.
The Janashree Bima Yojana aims to provide insurance coverage to workers and their family members who are socially and economically disadvantaged. This programme helps women and children financially as well.
Here are the details of the special scheme offered under the Janashree Bima Yojana.
The benefits of this programme for women participants are numerous. It aids them in educating their offspring. A term insurance policy with 30,000 rupees in coverage is available. This sum is offered for a full year. Beneficiaries will be required to pay an annual premium of Rs. 200. LIC covers the remaining Rs. 100, with the woman member contributing Rs. 100.
The following students can get the scholarship benefit under the Janashree Bima Yojana Scheme.
Students whose parents are members of the Janashree Bima Yojana Scheme.
Students in grades 9 through 12 (including ITI courses).
Note: The student will not be eligible for a scholarship for the following year in the same standard if the student fails and is detained in the same standard.
Here is the benefit-wise claim process for Janashree Bima Yojana.
The application must be filled out completely and submitted to the Nodal Agency using Proforma A-I along with an authenticated copy of the previous year's mark sheet.
The Nodal Agency must submit a list of eligible students to the relevant P&GS unit for scholarship disbursement along with all necessary information, including the school's name, master policy number, student's name, member's name, class, and membership number in accordance with Proforma - A - II.
Every quarter, LIC will deliver the A/c Payee Cheque in the name of the Nodal Agency along with a list of the beneficiary students, who would then distribute it to the qualified students.
Nodal Agency is required to keep records and submit U.C. to P&GS unit of LIC in accordance with proforma A-III every half-year.
Application for payment of claims amount from nominee to Nodal Agency with supporting documentation of Nodal Agency shall review the claim papers and submit them along with the necessary documentation, including the following conditions.
Completely filled out claim form in parts "A," "B," "C," and "D". Part "C" of the claim form has a revenue stamp of Rs. 1 attached.
Application and Nomination Form Annexure III in original form, or a certificate from the concerned DPO or CDPO of the ICDS Cell or Project attesting to the deceased member's nomination details (i.e., name of nominee, relationship to member, etc.) and the date the deceased member joined the project as an AWW or AWH.
Age verification (school transcript, a birth certificate extracted from a primary health centre, Ration card, voter identification card, copy of the voter list, etc.)
The death certificate from the physician.
A copy of a death registration certificate that has been properly attested by a Pradhan, Class-I LIC officer, or Nationalised Bank officer. The attestation must be authentic.
A copy of the beneficiary's or the nominee's Bank Pass Book.
The most vulnerable group in society are the rural and urban workers who are at or near the poverty level. Government-sponsored programmes like JBY, therefore, offer a variety of advantages that make them an appealing choice. People below the poverty line need financial aid to cover daily expenses, which is difficult to organise in the event of the sudden loss or injury of the sole provider of the family. Thus, it is necessary for workers in both urban and rural areas to apply for this scheme.
