Dreamcatcher For Your Child

Team AckoFeb 8, 2024

It is a popular belief that a dreamcatcher hung above the bed of someone sleeping will ward off bad dreams! It is a wonderful piece of craft that is colourful and attractive. It can be tricky, so make sure you assist your child when he needs any help. You can play with different colours and go as creative as possible while decorating your very own dream catcher! This can be a fun-filled activity for both your child and you!

Requisites: Paper plate -1, a pair of safety scissors, some colourful feathers, coloured beads- a handful, punching machine, different coloured paint, coloured yarn, stickers for decoration, markers, glue

    Steps:

    1. Take a paper plate and cut a hole in the centre, leaving about two inches as the border. This can be a little difficult for your child. This is best done by you.

    2. Using a punching machine, punch holes all around the border of the paper plate, leaving an inch after every punched hole.

    3. Let your child paint the paper plate with the colour of his choice. Let it dry for a while.

    4. As the paper plate dries, cut out strings from the coloured yarn of different sizes. Tie each piece of yarn string to a feather.

    5. String different coloured beads through the yarn to make it more colourful. When you are done with this step, ensure to tie a knot at the end of the yarn string. This holds all the beads and does not allow them to fall off.

    6. Repeat these steps to have enough number of beaded strings for your dream catcher.

    7. Once the paper plate is ready, put every piece of beaded yarn string through the previously punched holes in a random order so as to create a geometrical shape at the centre of the plate. Secure with glue.

    8. Punch a few holes at the bottom of your dreamcatcher and string through the beaded yarn strings with feathers tied to them. Now, your dreamcatcher is ready to drive away all bad dreams!

This activity is very artsy and will be thoroughly enjoyed by your child. Your child will improve his eye-hand coordination and creativity!
