Watching all that play-dough and clay scattered around the floor, smeared on the carpet and walls might be a little frustrating, or even infuriating, but know that these simple activities are helping your child grow and develop! In fact, playing games that involve eye-hand coordination or require the use of smaller muscle groups could aid in his fine motor skill development. So, instead of scolding your child (of course, you can teach him about how smearing clay all over the house is a strict no-no), you should involve yourself in simple activities that can aid in your little one’s physical development.

1. Start by stocking up on clay or play-dough. Squeezing and stretching it is fun, plus it strengthens finger muscles. At the same time, it offers your child a valuable sensory experience. He will be more imaginative.

2. Try finger painting. Every child loves to smear colors and likes how paints are scattered. So, give him the chance to get dirty. Allow your child to finger paint somewhere, preferably in yard or garage where everything can get messy. But teach him not to do it at home.

3. You can even have some fun making bathroom murals. Make sure that you are supervising your child with scissors and help him safely cut thin pieces of craft foam in different places. This will develop his manual dexterity.
