Learning the Hour to Hour Concept of Time Using Pizza

Learning about the concept of time can be tough on a toddler. Here is an easy to do activity to make your angel learn real quickly. It’s called the Pizza –Time Counter.

Requisiites:

1 Card board sheet – to make two circular shapes of 6” diameter each, Marker Pen, Scissors, Glue, Colored Papers-At least 2 colors

Steps:

1. Cut out two circles like a pizza from the card board sheet.

2. With a marker pen, divide them into 12 slices like that of a pizza.

3. With glue, stick the colored papers in to the different slices in both the pizzas.

4. With a marker pen, write 1 to 12 numbers (like that in a clock) on both the pizzas. .

5. Now keep one of the pizzas aside and cut the other pizza in given 12 slices.

6. Ask the child to match the numbers on the slices to the numbers on the pizza where it belongs, starting with 1. For example, when the child matches slice with no.1 to the 1 on the other pizza, you can tell that this is 1 o’clock (showing the clock). Similarly, you move on to number 2 and explain the 2^nd hour on the clock. This way they can understand all 12 hours of the clock very well.

This is a visual and engaging way to learn time which also harnesses creativity.
