Steps:

1. Fill the jar halfway with cream.

2. If you’re using marbles to speed up the process, drop them in now.

3. Put the lid on tightly and shake it..

4. Quickly, the liquid will thicken, and you won’t hear liquid sloshing around anymore.

5. Keep shaking! Open and check.

6. Pop the lid back on, and keep shaking. After a few more minutes, you will hear liquid sloshing around in the jar again.

7. Peek inside and you will find that the sloshing sound is the buttermilk separating from the butter that was forming in the jar.

8. Almost ready! Pour off that buttermilk, and shake or scoop the butter out of the jar.

9. To finish, you need to rinse the butter under cold water. Knead it a little as you rinse. This will remove the last of the buttermilk and will prevent the butter from going rancid quickly.
