Let's Make Jewelry Creations With Play Dough

Play dough is an amazing material with which your child can make anything. It is an excellent way to refine his fine motor skills. With this simple innovative activity, your child works on improving both his attention span as well as finger movements.

Requisites: A large lump of play dough, a wooden skewer, string, oven pre-heated to low heat.

Steps:

1. Get your child to roll the play dough into small balls. You can show one and let him do the rest.

2. Using a wooden skewer gently pierce each ball all the way through. You can slightly wiggle the skewer around to make the hole wide enough to easily thread with string later. This is a crucial step and you can show your child how to do it before he starts on his own.

3. Once the holes are made in the play dough balls, get your child to arrange them in an oven tray.

4. On low heat, keep the tray in the oven for about half an hour. Every 10 minutes you can move the play dough balls so that they harden evenly all over.

5. Allow the play dough balls to cool.

6. Now, let your child thread them onto the string to create his own braclet/necklace etc.

Your child can experiment with any shape like star, square, diamond etc. Let him use his imagination and explore his creativity with play dough.
