This science experiment is not only interesting, looks attractive but also best to engage your fantasy loving little one. It is based on how water flows from the ground to the whole plant through its stems and roots. This process is also known as capillary action. This experiment helps in developing your little one’s motor and imagination skills.

Requisites: Medium sized paper towels, 3 jars or glasses, Yellow food coloring, Blue food coloring
Steps:
1) Place the three jars side by side. Fill the first jar with plain water and add a little amount of blue food coloring into it and mix it well.
2) Leave the second jar empty.
3) Now fill the third jar with water mixed with yellow food color. That is with yellow color water.
4) Take a paper towel from the kitchen that is also known as kitchen towel and fold it in half length ways so that it can easily fit into the neck of your jar.
5) Fold the paper towel in such a way that one end from the right side is in the middle of the blue color water while other sits in the middle of the empty jar. Bend the paper towel from the edge of the glass.
6) Fold the another paper towel and repeat the same procedure and put the towel in this way that one end rests in the middle of the empty jar while another end sits in the middle of the yellow water.
7) Now wait and watch for 30 minutes.
8) You will observe that the water starts walking up the towels and over the towel they will reach the jar which is in the middle.
9) After about 2 hours you will surprise to see that the middle jar is now filling up with the mixture of blue and yellow water that is with the red water.
We choose paper towel here as a paper towel is very absorbent which means there are so many gaps in it for the water to move very easily. And this experiment occurs as the adhesive force of paper towel is stronger than the cohesive force of colored water. Always try to choose the food colors for water that can mix and make a new one as red is formed in this experiment after the mixing of yellow and blue color water.
