Remember the days of using a needle and thread to stitch a simple button? Children should be aquainted to the use of needle and thread at a young age. It’s an important skill, which shall come handy in future. Some people even make a living out of it. Here is a needle and thread activity that improves their fine motor skills.

Steps:

1.Use a readymade stitching kit.It contains- a coloured picture card, a D-I-Y embroidery cloth, needle and coloured threads.

2. With the help of the needle and thread of suitable color in the picture, start stitching from below.

3. Finish the picture using different colored thread and frame the picture.

It can be used for decorative purposes. It could be a good gift item too. Initially,this activity might need parental guidance and supervision. Sewing helps build the muscles in hands and shoulders. It improves concentration and develops patience in the child.
