This is a wonderful activity that helps your child learn and consolidate her understanding about colours. This color sorting activity will enhance her obervational skills and he will learn various colors better.

Requisites: Colored pipe cleaners, clean empty spice jars with holes, scissors, colored paper cut into small circles or (white paper and crayons) and sticky tape.

Steps:

1. Cut the pipe cleaners into small lengths to fit the size of spice jars.

2. Cut out small circles using the colored paper. Another alternative can be cutting small circles using white paper. Depending on the colors of the pipe cleaners, guide your child to color the circles using crayons. As she does the coloring, you can reinforce basics about colors.

3. Get your child to paste the colored circles on each spice jar.

4. Next, she sorts the colored pipe cleaners and matches the correct colors by sight. She threads them into matching colored spice jars.

5. If she is not ready for matching and sorting colors, this is a great fine motor activity for threading and inserting the pipe cleaners into the spice jars. Gradually, you can add colors one by one.

Through this activity, your child learns about matching and sorting. She also builds her pincer grasp by picking up the pipe cleaners between her finger and thumb. This will help with her writing skills later.
