Team AckoFeb 4, 2024
At this age, your child’s visual literacy is much higher than her actual reading skills. She is able to recognize figures, symbols, icons and even the use of particular colors to form an interpretation. The color coordinated calendars are easy to read for your child. She can now look at the calendar and tell you what day and date it is. She can also count to the next holiday and tell you how many days away it is. She now knows the concept of days of the week and this helps her read the calendar.

What you need to know
If your child is ready for a skill it will happen naturally without much help from your side. For all the other kids, it would be simply wasting a lot time and effort to try to teach a skill that she is still not ready for. Be patient. Every child is different. Just because your friend’s child is able to read the calendar and tell the date and day from it does not mean that you child must also do the same. Let her do it at her own pace.
