The answer is yes. It is even more crucial as one in six couples face difficulty while trying to conceive. So, what are the do’s and don’ts to follow to ensure higher chances of conception?
Surely, this is high up in the DOs list. It is during the days leading to ovulation that increases your chances to get pregnant. Knowing about the pattern of your menstural cycle, your fertile window, and keeping track of your ovulation time will be very helpful to conceive.
Include foods in your diet that are good sources of all basic nutrients, especially which are rich sources of iron, protein and calcium. Fruits, vegetables, whole grains, lean protein, dairy products should be a part of your daily diet. Also, take folic acid supplements. These dietary habits will aid in preparing your body for pregnancy.
Moderate and right exercises assume more significance now. This is because tough workouts can interfere with ovulation. Sleep is also crucial now as less than 8 hours of sleep every night can bring about a drop in hormone levels, which are needed for conception. Try to relax by pursuing a hobby, reading a book, etc.
-Avoid processed, fast and packaged foods
-Avoid fish which have high mercury content. For example, sword fish, tile fish
-Avoid many dairy products
-Avoid unfiltered water which contain chemicals (chlorine)
-Avoid alcohol and smoking. Limit caffeine intake, a cup of coffee per day
-Avoid consuming lot of animal protein. Look for lean protein in lentils, eggs, fish and beans
Avoid strenuous workouts and try to keep your heart rate less than 130 beats per minute. Running, skiing, lifting heavy objects should be avoided. Aim at an exercise routine that benefits your overall health, both physical and mental.
Stress has a direct impact on the part of brain, hypothalamus, which tells the ovaries to release eggs.
Being aware of the dos and don’ts and following them is to optimize your chance to conceive. However, if you are 35 years and above and after trying for 1 year, conception does not happen, consult your doctor to check for medical problems. There can be gynaecological issues, which when treated, can help you conceive.
