You need to divide the responsibilities of your baby equally if you are having a nuclear family. If both of you are working parents then you need some family member or a maid to take care of your baby. If you plan to take a career break as a mother for your baby, then as a couple you need to plan that how will you manage your expenses in a single income.
Take a look over your overall investments before starting up a family and then see whether you can plan a baby or not. You also have to take up a medical insurance, some fixed deposits, some extra money for medical emergencies, for your planned vacation, money for your daily needs. Ask these questions to yourself as a parent and if the answer is confidently a ‘yes’, then go ahead with your decision of having a baby soon.
Now is the time that you should start saying no to late-night parties, alcohol, smoking, junk food and late sleeping hours. This affects your body and mars the chances of getting pregnant easily and in a healthy way. Before you start planning a baby, start getting 8 hours of sleep, eat healthy food like green vegetables, get sufficient dose of folic acid, fresh fruits, a calcium-rich diet, vitamin D, and iron-rich food. Cut down on tea and caffeine as well since this affects your fertility. A healthy lifestyle will indeed lead to a healthy pregnancy.
If you are using any contraceptive then stop using that a month before you start preparing for conception. Once you get your periods then start trying to get pregnant during your ovulation period. Consult with your doctor if you are on a contraceptive pill and you wish to start a family. This will help you in estimating your due date and bring in essential changes to your lifestyle.
It is harmful for the baby’s health if you are underweight or overweight, so it is very important for you to maintain a constant weight before you plan to get pregnant. The imbalance in the weight also effects the fertility as this might make you less fertile and your chances of getting pregnant will be less. Your body mass index should be between 18.5-22.9 before you conceive as this will give you a healthy pregnancy in return. Regulating your menstrual cycle will also help in improving your chances of conceiving. Get a healthy and balanced diet and cut down sugar too for a healthy pregnancy.
It is very essential for you as a couple to catch up on your sleep as much as you can before your bundle of joy comes in your arms. There will be a lot of sleepless nights and days ahead keeping you on your toes 24x7, so sleep as much as you can. The mother always goes through a real tough time during the pregnancy journey as during the third trimester the baby will grow along with the weight and it will be difficult for you to sleep during that time. There will be a lot of tossing and turning, so just stock up some sleep before embracing your baby.
Pregnancy is indeed an emotional and stressful journey, both mentally and physically. But you need to spend time in looking for your stress-busters that will help you in shooing away your stress right from the start of your journey of pregnancy.
