On an average, it takes a young couple 5 to 8 months to conceive, with approximately 80-90% getting pregnant after a year of trying. But if you feel you need a little help, there are a few things you can try before reaching out to a doctor. Keep in mind however, that in case of any medical discrepancies, you should consult a specialist immediately.
You can try out these tips without fail to improve your chances of getting pregnant.
A balanced diet is one of the best ways to keep your body in top shape and thereby, heighten your chances of conception. Be sure to include loads of protein, iron, zinc, vitamin C, and vitamin D in your diet, because research shows that deficiencies in these particular nutrients are linked to elongated menstrual cycles, infrequent ovulation, and a higher risk of early miscarriage. Have protein-rich foods, such as meat, fish, low-fat dairy products, eggs, and beans. If required, take a daily multivitamin supplement.
You already know smoking is bad for health, right? Scientists say that cigarette toxins cause damage to a woman's eggs, interfering with the fertilization and implantation process. Furthermore, smoking can also cause the ovaries to age.
Like smoking, alcohol can also have a deterrent effect on your chances of getting pregnant. Recent research has specifically linked alcohol consumption with a decreased ability to get pregnant. Moreover, alcohol may also harm a developing fetus. Alcohol tampers with oestrogen levels, which can then interfere with egg implantation.
We know you enjoy your cup of coffee – however, it’s the best to cut down on it while you’re attempting to conceive. Medical studies show that caffeine may affect female hormone levels and interfere with how long it takes to get pregnant.
Excess body weight is a cause of concern at any stage of your life. When it comes to fertility, surplus body fat can result in an overproduction of certain hormones that disrupt ovulation. Your cycles could become less regular, you could ovulate less often, and these lower your chances of getting pregnant. On the other hand, too little body fat may result in your body not producing enough hormones to ovulate each month.
Try switching to an organic diet when you’re trying to get pregnant. Many herbicides and pesticides have been shown to decrease male fertility and also affect female fertility by inhibiting ovarian function and unsettling the menstrual cycle. Recent research demonstrates that men who consume pesticide-treated foods have a lower sperm count and lower-quality sperm. So, go for organic fruits and vegetables, wash those with residues carefully, and avoid applying pesticides to your own garden.
Having regular intercourse on your ovulation dates can greatly enhance your chances of getting pregnant. When you're planning to conceive, find your fertile window, during which you should have intercourse regularly.
A woman's fertile days are typically the day of ovulation and the four of five days before. But don't assume that you automatically ovulate on day 14 of your cycle.
Use urine or saliva-based ovulation test kits, which are available over the counter – these will check for the presence of hormones that indicate ovulation. Additionally, you can monitor daily changes in your basal body temperature.
With all this planning and monitoring, it is normal to feel somewhat overwhelmed. However, do not let yourself get stressed, as stress may hamper your fertility. Experts surmise that stress may disrupt your body's hormone production, making your menstrual cycle irregular. Manage stress through relaxation techniques such as yoga or meditation, listening to music, or joining a support group.
Overall, remember to relax, focus on one another, and enjoy your togetherness with your partner. Staying positive and strong for each other is the best thing you can do!
