So, is this a hopeless situation? Are you alone struggling in this journey?

The good news is don’t lose hope and you are not the only one facing this issue. The following statistics will be comforting to know for couples who are finding it hard to get pregnant.

Stat 1: One in 8 couples are having a hard time getting pregnant or to sustain pregnancy

About one-third of infertility problems are caused by fertility issues in women and another one-third by fertility issues in men. The balance includes  a mix of male and female fertility issues and causes that are unknown.

Stat 2 : 15% of couples diagnosed with unexplained fertility will eventually become pregnant without treatment

At times the cause of infertility is not known. So, is pregnancy totally ruled out? The answer is no. A good number of couples can still conceive without any fertility treatment. This statistic is surely encouraging and filled with hope.

Stat 3: Ovulation usually happens between 11 and 21 days of your cycle. It lasts for 12 to 48 hours but you are potentially fertile for 7-10 days

The ovulation predictor kit will alert you that ovulation is going to happen the next day. Having sex on that day and two days after that gives you the best chance to get pregnant. In case the pattern of ovulation is such that it lasts for one day only, then having sex few days before will be the right option as sperm can live in your body for 4-5 days and conception can happen. However, if the cycles are irregular, predicting ovulation becomes difficult and in that case consulting your doctor would be better.

Stat 4: About 94% of married women aged 15 to 44 years are able to get pregnant within one year

This stat is very comforting. One may wonder how it is possible as fertility declines with increasing age. But the good news is majority of the couples are able to conceive within one year of trying.

Stat 5: Women above 35 years should be evaluated and treated after 6 months of unprotected sex

With age, the number and quality of eggs start to decline especially if you are 35 and above. It's better to consult your doctor and get yourself checked if after trying for 6 months, you are finding it hard to get pregnant. Getting checked and following your doctor’s inputs can reduce further delay and give you the desired result soon. This is done just as a precaution, although you may get pregnant eventually without any intervention.

There is no doubt; you may feel lonely and dejected when not able to conceive. However, the above stats reaffirm the faith in couples who are finding it difficult to get pregnant that the situation is not as hopeless as it seems and surely you are not the only one. With advances in medicine and technology, timely diagnosis, and right treatment, there is hope for you to get the desired result: a lovely, healthy baby!
