Once the contract for surrogacy is signed, medical procedures begin for embryo transfer. It will be done at a fertility clinic agreed upon by both parties.
Prior to the transfer of embryo, the surrogate mother will be given medicines so that the success rate of embryo transfer is high. At the appropriate time, the embryo will be transferred to her uterus. The transfer of embryo is quick, painless, and is done without anaesthesia.
After a few weeks, she will be tested for pregnancy. Once the pregnancy is confirmed, routine appointments that include blood tests and ultrasounds begin. At about 6 weeks into pregnancy, a healthy heartbeat of the baby will be checked for with the help of an ultrasound and the payments will start as mentioned in the contract.
You will be given medicines to stimulate egg production. At the appropriate time, the egg is retrieved and fertilized by the sperm of the intended father. The fertilized egg(s) are incubated and screened for any issues before being transferred to the surrogate mother.
Once pregnancy is confirmed, provide all emotional support to the surrogate mother besides the payments as per the schedule mentioned in the contract.
After all the doctor appointments, tests, ultrasound, medications and ensuring a healthy pregnancy, your bundle of joy comes in the world. It’s a moment of immense happiness and at the same time very emotional for both surrogate mom and the new parents.
The surrogate mother is discharged from the hospital and you bring your bundle of joy home. As agreed upon, both the parties may or may not want to maintain a relationship throughout the newborn’s life.
The surrogacy process is definitely a challenging and life-changing event for both surrogate mother and the new parents. The surrogate mother is trying to bring financial stability in her life by fulfilling a couple’s long-awaited dream of having their own child and completing their family.
