Teething rash in babies has always been an excruciating process for both babies and moms in particular. Sleepless nights, irritation, fever are few outcomes it is associated with. A teething rash is also known as drool or dribble rash which is caused due to the constant dripping saliva from the mouth of your baby. It sticks mostly over the neck chest and chin area. The rash initially may burst as a red spot or bumps which on worsening may look like blisters and produce a very foul smell. You may confuse them with skin infection like eczema or yeast infections.

The only case of rash is the leaking saliva. While teething your baby may produce extra saliva which permeates through his neck and chest to his clothes that remains damp. The skin of your baby is too sensitive and gradually it starts reacting to the same. Also, it is known that the saliva contains certain digestive enzymes in the drool to cause such a highly irritated and unattractive skin condition. Your baby may experience pain, itching, irritation accompanied by sleeplessness, uneasiness, and fever. Excessive rubbing may worsen the situation. If left untreated it may fill with pus or may get infected with cracked skin because of the germs carried over by constant rubbing or scraping.
It is advisable and better to avoid those conditions which may cause rash if it is manifested, follow certain protocols to fight it away naturally:
Natural baby products are recommended over the fragrant and scented products which may prove to be harmful to your baby’s skin. Use good quality unscented soaps and moisturizer for your little one.
A teething rash can be prevented in the absence of moisture. Petroleum jelly, coconut is proved to be skin friendly, mild and good lubricants which may prevent the rash. Keep a watch over your baby and in case of over drool or saliva, just dab it with a little pressure and during the feeds, use a bib so that the clothes and the folds of neck skin remain clean and dry after a feed.
If you find too much dribbling on hands and face, wash the area with a bar of mild soap and water and pat it dry as hands may be a carrier for the germs.
It will be better to change the clothes at least twice or thrice in a day in case they get damp or after feeding.
You must get your baby clothes washed separately in a mild detergent and use some disinfectant for clothes. Chemicals in detergent may harm his skin. Your clothes may contain pollen thus avoid mixing the clothes.

After every feed, the bottle must be sterilized completely so to avoid any infection through the nipple and burp your baby for some time so that he doesn’t take out milk after some time.
Use a small sheet for putting your baby to sleep over the bed sheets.
These rashes are common and may disappear over time with home remedies. If you don’t find any improvement in the rashes and they turn leaky and redder, it is time to visit a doctor.
