Mother’s day is one day that is set aside to say ‘Thank you’ to the one who gave birth to us, raised and nourished us in a way that she wouldn’t do for anyone else and more than we could perhaps ever find anyone else do it for us. A mother indeed is irreplaceable for all that she does for her family. In fact, mother’s day is to appreciate and remember all maternal bonds that we have experienced and cherished.

When you become a mother, you can inculcate in your kids the habit of making this one-day special where all maternal bonds in the family are honored. Your kids will shower you with gifts, cards, treats, and make you feel loved. You can help your children make the day even more meaningful with some activities.

Activities for kids especially for Mother's Day

Well, we bring before you 5 activities that you can do with your children on Mother’s Day and make it memorable for a lifetime.

1. Art pieces

Children can place their hands and feet into a tub of colorful, non-toxic paint. Spread out a roll of chart paper, and have everyone press their hands and feet onto it, leaving their prints behind. You can label each handprint and footprint with the person’s name, the date, and a special message to ‘Mom’. Let the art pieces dry.

Try this activity again next year, and see how much bigger some hands and feet have become! You can try a similar activity with clay. Ready kits for Hand and Feet imprints using clay are available in the market.

2. Flower garden

If space allows you to, encourage your children to plant some flowers in the garden on Mother’s Day. Plant the seeds in the shape of a message. Help your children scratch the message on the soil.

For example, write ‘Mommy’ on the soil. Drop the seeds along the lines drawn and bingo! With some watering and care, you will have flowers growing in the shape of the word ‘Mommy’. Plant some indoor flowers in case you do not have a separate garden. The idea is to indulge in a creative act and be close to nature.

3. Get some services

On this day be ready to be pampered by your children and you do the same for your mother. Tell your kids what help or services you would like to have. It could be, help with a household chore, teaching you a skill you would like to acquire, an outing or anything else.

Do the same for your mother on this day and it will help instill a sense of responsibility and gratitude in your child.

4. New family tradition

Start a new family tradition on Mother’s Day. For example, create a craft work using household items or partake in some charitable work or something very simple like making sure the family reads together every Sunday night.

It will be fun to take down notes on the day you started it and match it with your progress every year.

5. Story and music

Recreate a story or music. On Mother’s Day, put on your creative hats and get together with your kids to discuss a story you already know and give it your own twist. You can do the same with music.

Take some popular songs that you and your children enjoy, brainstorm, and come up with new lines giving the song a newer form. These activities make for quality time with your kids and give you both memories to cherish as a family.

A mother-child bond is based on deep love and compassion. A mother is a role model too for the child.
