With growing self-awareness, your child will want to make meaningful contribution in the house chores. He has been observing you doing the daily tasks. So don’t be surprised if he offers to help or imitates what you do like putting worn clothes in the laundry basket, folding small clothes like shirts, handkerchiefs, etc.

Initially, you may feel it’s a lot of work to teach him how to do it. You may feel it’s better to finish it on your own rather than spending time, teaching and making him do it. It could be messy initially. Yes, it requires lot of patience and reinforcement. But it’s a great way to instill discipline and independence in your child starting early on.
Be positive and appreciate your little one’s efforts. Don’t look for perfection in the start. Your child is trying something new. Don’t die out his spirit by being critical about his work. Reward his efforts by giving a sticker. Once his father is back from work, tell him about all the jobs he has done. This will boost his pride and self-esteem.
