It is quite common for your child at this age to be more vocal about his likes and dislikes. Your budding kid has started developing his own preferences or choices from what he likes to eat to which cloth he dislikes the most. But do not take these likes and dislikes too seriously, as the kid may not actually mean them and the thing he dislikes right now will eventually become his favourite one. 1. Do not be too concerned about your kid's declarations of strong likes and dislikes at this age. He has just learned the two words, “like” and “hate”, and is experimenting with them because they help in defining who he is.

2. It’s perfectly normal for your child to suddenly declare he hates this food or toy, even things he loved yesterday. Do not insist him to like the toy or food at that time only. Instead , talk to him about why he started disliking the item and resolve the problem. Example, he started disliking playing with blocks because they fall off immediately. Help him to connect them properly so they last long.

3. Let him tell his “likes and dislikes” but do not spoil him by letting him choose everything on his own every time.Try to give him his favourite things but not always.

4. Make him familiar with the things he dislikes in a different manner. For instance, if your child dislikes eating carrots, tell him that “his teddy loves to eat carrot. Teddy says, it’s yummy. Ask him to give it a try.” Or just leave carrots for a day or two and then introduce it in different manner.
