Explain To Your Kids That They Need To Take Responsibility For Their Actions

You want your child to be responsible and have the right attitude towards a task that he undertakes to do. There are many ways to ingrain this attitude in your child, starting young.

    Assign age appropriate household chores to your child. He feels valued and good when he makes his meaningful contribution to the household work.

    Praise his efforts. This positive communication will help him take the initiative in other tasks, next time too.

    Keep realistic expectations.You can create a chore chart. Teach him how to do one task at a time. Supervise initially till he learns to do on his own.

    Enforce rules. Get your child to be responsible for his actions by telling him the consequences. For instance, if he has spread his art supplies on his table, you can say, “If you leave the table messy, you won’t get the supplies back.'' Be firm and consistent when it comes to enforcing the consequences. Please remember you want your child to be responsible as he is growing up. By shirking responsibility, this goal cannot be attained. Avoid doing it for him, even if it upsets him.
