As your child is exploring the world around him, he has a tendency to touch, hug, poke anything and everything. Teaching being at arm’s length is very crucial for somethings especially when it comes to his safety.
Contents
Teach your child everyone in the family needs personal space and define them. For instance, When you go into your brother’s room, “You should either knock the door or call his name to come in.” OR while using the washroom, close the door OR We don’t talk to strangers or take anything from them, etc. Also, when you see your child respecting someone’s personal space, praise his efforts.
Be firm, consistent, positive and have immense patience. This is a new social skill you are trying to teach and takes repetition and time for your little one to understand why personal space is so important.
