10 things you should be doing before your child's school life starts

Team AckoFeb 8, 2024

Once you have a baby, it takes up most of your time and how! From diaper to vaccination, from games to feeding, and so much more. Before you can even realize, time flies and your child is all set to go to school. Both of you as parents are giving your child almost every bit of time you have in your life. However, before you get into another round of routine with your child’s school and its rules in your life, you need to have some good time with your partner.

Since your child is now slightly older and almost ready for schooling, you need not handhold him too much. Try to get back to parts of your old life before your baby arrived and regain balance in your couple time. Try to find the time and make a bit of an extra effort to enjoy this stage of your life to the fullest.

Let’s look at a few things that can be done:

    1. Relax at a spa

The first and foremost thing to do that’s much-awaited is some relaxation. Get yourself a nice makeover or spend a day at a spa close by. Either both of you or at least each one of you, taking turns, can make the best use of the time to simply unwind.

    2. Play games together

Sounds strange? Yes, you can look at playing some game together while your child is sleeping. Since now your little one has a scheduled sleep time, you can plan and do something. Why not play card games or board games? Or you can try playing Xbox together! Some together time to refresh yourself is a must for all couples. Games are a great stress buster and competitive too. If you can manage outdoors, you can play badminton or table tennis too!

    3. Exercise

Bringing up a baby will take a lot of time, leading to more chores, more laundry! Hence, investing in your health is very important. Hit the gym together or the pool or take your bike and go cycling, jog, or do yoga. You will feel fresh like never before. Physical activity and outdoor sunshine will rejuvenate both of you, making you will feel active and revived.

    4. TV/Movie Time

Ah, finally! The most-awaited! You can watch the TV together and enjoy some shows relaxing. It's one of the easiest activities you can do at the end of a long day that’s filled with domestic duties, noise, and the never-ending questions of your kid. Just ensure it’s only the two of you with no disturbance or gadgets around. Just enjoy peacefully and closely.

    5. Celebrate or dance together

Yes! Seems nice right? Especially after too much baby stuff, this is quite essential. You can create your own dance floor at home and sing and dance along to your favorite song! Ask your partner for a dance and enjoy! If you can manage to go out, then options are endless. There would be loads of household chores that have added up post the baby’s arrival. However, you can still plan and cook a special meal and celebrate together. Just the two of you. Arrange a candle-lit dinner at home for the two of you. Do not wait for any occasion. Bake or cook something out of the ordinary and enjoy.

    6. Start a blog/journal/scrapbook

You will have loads of memories with your little one. And now, compared to the days when your little one was too little, now you have more time in hand with sorted schedules of your child, to work on something else. You and your partner can work together and start updating the blog while you add beautiful moments of your life. Select the blog design, pick templates, and start writing together.

    7. Get back to your hobbies/interests

Your little one would be taking away your time from hobbies. However, now that he is slightly older, you can get back to your interests, whether it is painting, embroidery, or blogging. Or better still, if you both have a common interest in photography, bird watching, etc., go for nature walks together and enjoy clicking as many pictures as you want. You can take your child along at times. If you love reading, you can just pick up a magazine or some comic or novel and curl up and read a book. If the book is very interesting, you can discuss it over a nice cup of coffee together.

    8. Make long-term goals

While your life would have suddenly become busy, you need to review the practical side of it and plan for the future. Spend time looking at investments, emergency fund requirement, and plan your financial goals for years ahead.

    9. Picture time

You can look at your old photos, wedding album, dating time pics, and more, and have fun recalling the nostalgic moments you both had together. Share some laughs together teasing each other. Collect the very good ones and make a personal frame for you and your partner. The moments that become beautiful memories are precious.

    10. Vacation time

If you have your in-laws living with you, plan for a weekend outing where you can leave your child with your folks. A romantic getaway, an amusement park, adventure trip, or trekking will help recharge both of you and pep up your energy levels as well.

Grandma’s Tip: One of the best ways to rekindle any relationship is the surprise element. Send flowers with a beautiful note, gift each other something personal, send a message or write a beautiful letter. Anything new will have its own advantages. You can book a table at a close by restaurant and go out for dinner, book tickets for a movie or have a surprise lunch date with your partner. You can take the lead and make it a lovely moment. Take one day at a time, make that effort, and enjoy life.
