Understand Your Child's Communication

Team AckoFeb 8, 2024

At this stage, your child must be saying a few words, which will still not be clear enough to understand for you or others. You as a parent need to understand and have your total attention on your child to listen to what she is trying to communicate to you. Language development really takes off during this time, especially as your child will complete her second birthday.

At this age your child might learn dozens of words, but that may not be recognizable. You need to have a clear picture of what she is expressing, when she gets around to talking. By 2 years, most children will say 50 words or more, use phrases, and be able to put together two- to three-word sentences. It’s quite understandable that your child got the hang of few words which she is putting in to make the sentences. You should be alert because by now your child should be able to respond to simple commands and should be fully aware of the names of familiar objects and family members.
