At this stage, you can prepare for the delivery by joining childbirth classes nearby and also start shopping for your baby’s essentials. Once your baby arrives then you will have almost no time to step outdoors for a few weeks, so make sure that everything at home is stocked up that is required for your baby.
You can easily stock up things that will be required for the initial 6 weeks with the baby. Let’s take a look at the important things that you must stock up for your baby
Let’s take a look at the important things that you must stock up for your baby for at least the first six weeks:
A newborn baby doesn’t require too many sets of new clothes. Opt for some basic clothes like cotton t-shirts that come with a side tie up or velcro at a side to keep it in place. Also, you need to take care of the umbilical cord stump for a week or so. You can also try onesies that are very comfortable for your little one.
You need a lot of napkins, cotton onesies, and socks to keep the feet of your baby warm when she is in an air-conditioned room. As your baby will grow too fast, do not buy clothes in bulk at just one go. Keep buying clothes as per her growth chart month by month to avoid wastage of money and clothes. You can also buy a dozen sleepers in which your baby remains covered from neck to feet and she will stay warm as well for a good sleep.
Grandma’s Tip: Make sure you buy some warm, cozy caps for your baby to protect the little one from cold. Their ears are very sensitive and need protection from the winds. But make sure not to buy too many caps at once, because the little one’s head size will be changing very frequently. Don’t waste too much money just in excitement by going on a shopping haul for the baby.
You should buy cloth diapers for the first two days when your baby will pee and poop several times in a day. This is absolutely all right. After two days, just check if her poop is normal, then you can go ahead with normal disposable diapers or continue using cloth diapers for a few more days.
Always buy a small bathtub for your baby as initially, you require just a little water to clean up your baby. If you have a large wash basin where you can hold your baby and make her bath comfortably, then there is no need to buy the tub. But, in a tub, you can always maintain the temperature of the water, so it is worth buying. The choice is yours as you have to look at your comfort as well while bathing your baby.
It is recommended to wash the baby’s private areas with water every time she poops because too much use of wipes can give rashes to your baby’s delicate skin. You can keep one pack handy as this will prove essential while you are traveling with your baby. It will be also helpful in cases where the bathroom is at a distance and you need to clean up the baby immediately.
But always make sure to clean the area with water and pat it dry with a clean soft towel. After that, wait for 5 minutes and then let her wear a new diaper. Never go for fragrant wipes as they contain chemicals that are harsh on your baby’s skin.
Keep a comb, a pair of scissors, and nail cutter handy for your baby. Make sure you buy stuff that is specific for your newborn and safe. Nail clippers that are meant for clipping your baby’s nails are blunt and would prevent her from scratching herself.
Diaper bags are waterproof and contain many pockets for storage. They can also be hanged in the form of sling cross-body or have backpack straps. You can also use a good backpack that makes a functional and cheap bag for storing the diapers.
Bottles and formula milk powder are a must-buy as there’s a possibility that your milk flow will be less initially. You can go for glass or BPA-free plastic bottles along with nipple sets to replace after a few weeks. If the flow is alright, then you need not go for formula milk and keep continuing with breast milk.
You need to keep a digital thermometer handy as fever in the initial weeks in babies is a common thing due to weather or environmental changes. However, it is essential to keep checking the little one’s temperature for signs of a fever, so the digital thermometer will come in handy.
This will save your baby’s butt from rashes due to heavy flow or due to wearing a wet diaper for a longer time than usual. Make sure you consult your doctor before purchasing this cream for your baby as her skin is too sensitive and you just can’t apply anything on it.
Breast pump helps in pumping out the milk from your breasts and this milk can be used when you are not around your baby. Make sure that it is thoroughly cleaned after every use so that your baby can get safe milk at her end.
