Prenatal care is a critical part of a healthy pregnancy, now that your due date is so near. During your third trimester, your doctor will ask you to schedule prenatal care appointments every 2 weeks, depending on your health and pregnancy history. From 36 weeks onward, you will need weekly checkups until you deliver.

Your doctor will check your blood pressure and weight gain, as well as your baby's heartbeat and movements. They will also have you give a urine sample to be tested for elevated levels of protein and sugar. They will ask you if you have any unusual signs or symptoms, including contractions and leakage of fluid or bleeding. Mention anything that seems odd or unusual to you, no matter how insignificant it may seem – it may be vital for you and your baby’s health.
A standard baby check-up will be done, by measuring the height of your womb to see how big baby is, checking heart rate with a foetal doppler, and discussing the frequency of movements with you. Your doctor will ask you to keep track of how often you feel the baby move on a daily basis — and to alert them if the movements seem to slow down.
Talk to your doctor about any vaccinations you might need. Your doctor will also continue to guide you through any questions or concerns you may have, and can advise you about your pregnancy diet or symptoms, which are more important than ever, now that you’re approaching the later stages of pregnancy.
