Now that you’re in the third trimester, the frequency of your prenatal visits will increase from once every 4 weeks, to one 15-minute appointment every two weeks, just so your doctor can check that all is going smoothly with you and your baby.
Contents
As with previous visits, your doctor will check your weight, blood pressure, and have you give a urine sample to test for elevated levels of protein or sugar. They will measure your uterus to get a sense of how your baby is growing, and take heart rate with a fetal doppler. They will also start checking up on your baby’s movements from appointment-to-appointment as a good indicator of health.
Additionally, they will be on the lookout for signs of infection, preterm labor, or preeclampsia.
Your doctor will also continue to guide you through any questions or concerns you may have, and can advise you about your pregnancy diet or symptoms, which are more vital than ever, now that you’ve reached the later stages of pregnancy.
Your doctor is a hugely valuable resource for you as you head down the final stretch of pregnancy – so make sure you get your questions ready before each prenatal visit.
