Throughout pregnancy, there will be physical and emotional changes happening for the would-be-mother. Each trimester will have a few annoying and manageable symptoms. The second trimester is considered to be the most comfortable of all three trimesters. With a high energy level and better moods, this trimester is far better than the early pregnancy phase.

However, there are few symptoms, which will bother you and you can try various relief measures.
Edema, where feet and legs swell up
This occurs when your body retains fluid. The hormone relaxin causes the ligaments in the feet to loosen and the bones to spread. This also swells up feet. You can help with the swelling by keeping the feet in an elevated position when possible and soaking them in a cool foot bath.
Swollen and bleeding gums
These are caused due to pregnancy hormones. You can ease this discomfort by rinsing with salt water and using a soft bristled brush. You can also seek your dentist’s advice. However, don’t avoid oral hygiene.
Nasal congestion
It is also caused due to pregnancy hormones. The mucous membranes swells up and dries out. Using saline drops and by staying hydrated, you can ease the discomfort.
UTI
While pregnant, you are at more risk of getting UTIs (Urinary Tract Infections). Frequent urination with pain, lower back pain, fever are few UTI symptoms. Consult your doctor immediately. She will prescribe antibiotics for relief.
Varicose Veins
Increase in blood volume and changes in circulation results in thin, red veins under the skin of the legs. These are called varicose veins. With regular exercise and keeping feet elevated aids in improving circulation.
The good news is that these symptoms are manageable and with renewed energy levels, you will be able to accept and deal with them better. Enjoy the second trimester, beautiful!
