Around the 25 week mark, you will probably have some or all of the following tests to check for yours and your baby’s wellbeing.
If this is your first baby, you will most probably have a routine antenatal appointment at around 25 weeks. Your doctor will check your bump gently with their hands to work out the height of your womb. It is unlikely that you’ll have an ultrasound at 25 weeks, unless your doctor has ordered extra monitoring for your baby.Your blood pressure will be monitored and a urine sample will be taken to check for protein. These are normal checks to make sure you don't have signs of pre-eclampsia.
You will have a diabetes check called ICYMI between 24 and 28 weeks. This is a glucose screening test that screens for 25th week of pregnancy signs like gestational diabetes, a high blood sugar condition that affects 3-4% of pregnant women, and usually goes away after birth.
For the test, your doctor will ask you to not eat for several hours beforehand and then drink a sugary solution. A few minutes later, your blood will be drawn to test your sugar levels. If your blood sugar is high, another blood glucose test is conducted to verify if you have gestational diabetes. Treatment involves a special diet and medication in certain cases.
