At 2 weeks, you won't even realize you are pregnant, but there is an increase in the amount of estrogen and progesterone, which stimulate your uterus to produce a potential fertilized egg. At the same time, your eggs are ripening in the ovaries in follicles. During the ovulation phase (which is usually day 15 of a 28 day menstrual cycle), the egg erupts from its follicle and enters the ovary through the fallopian tube.
The next 24 hours are extremely crucial as 1 in 250 million sperm will manage to reach your fallopian tube where the egg can penetrate. Once the egg successfully reaches, then during the next 10-30 hours the sperm's nucleus merges with the eggs and combines their genetic material. If there is X chromosome then it’s a girl and if it’s Y chromosome then it’s a boy! So, by now the sex of your baby has been decided. As few more days pass by, your egg then gets transported from your fallopian tube to the uterus and the fertilized egg then comes to be known as the zygote. Furthermore, it will be divided into 16 identical cells. As the zygote enters the uterus, it is known as a morula. In the next phase, the morula will be groping itself to the lining of your uterus as you embark on this beautiful life changing journey.
Little later than 3 days, your little one is actually like a ball of cells scientifically known as a blastocyst. The inner cell mass will eventually become the embryo and the fluid filled sac will be known as the amniotic sac. The outer cell mass will gradually become the placenta, which will not only deliver oxygen and vital nutrients to your baby but will also carry away the waste products. In the later stages, the placenta and the amniotic sac will happen to be most important thing for the growth of your baby.
As you conceive, a lot of things change and take some time to fall in place. Patience is the key here along with staying calm and relaxed. Take one day at a time.
