    Ingredients to make Dosakai Pappu:

    1 cup tur dal/red gram dal/kandi pappu, 1½ cubed dosakaya/yellow cucumber, 1 onion chopped, 1 tomato chopped (optional), big pinch of turmeric powder, 2-3 green chilis slit lengthwise, ½ tsp chopped ginger, salt to taste, 2 cups of water

    For seasoning/poppu/tadka:

    1 tsp mustard seeds, ½ tsp cumin seeds, 3-4 garlic cloves crushed, 2 dry red chillis, de-seed and tear, 10-12 fresh curry leaves, 2 tsps oil

    Steps to make Dosakai Pappu:

    1. Wash the dal thoroughly. Add water, green chiles, and cucumber.

    2. Pressure cook the dal for 3 whistles. Allow it cool and then open mash the dal add tumeric salt ,tamarind water and coriander mix everything well and bring dal to a boil.

    3. For seasoning, add ghee to a pan, add garlic, and fry. Add the garlic to the dal. Add mustard, cumin and allow them to splutter.

    4. Switch off the flame and then add asafoetida and chili powder.

    Add the seasoning to dal and mix well. Serve this to your kid and see him enjoy.
