Being an excellent source of iron, cumin aids in digestion, boosts the immune system and has anti-carcinogenic properties. Black cumin seeds contain about 100 chemical compounds including vitamins, proteins, carbohydrates, minerals and fatty acids. They are known for their healing qualities. When this is mixed with carbohydrate rich rice it forms the best combo benifiting health with great taste. Jeera rice is made and consumed all over India.

Basmati rice-1 cup, water - 1 cup, salt- to taste, cumin seeds-1 tsb, black pepper- to taste, garam masala powder- 1/4 tsb, veg oil-1 tsb, onions and coriander leaves-½ cup
1. Rinse the basmati rice 3-4 times.
2. In a medium sized sauce pan, h eat the oil over medium heat.
3. Add the cumin seeds and black pepper and cook until they sizzle. Add chopped onion and fry till brown in colour.
4. Add the rice. Cook for 1 minute while stirring, sprinkle garam masala.
5. Add the water and salt. Stir. Bring to a boil.
6. Cover and lower the heat to low. Cook for 12 minutes, do not stir and do not remove the lid.
Garnish with chopped coriander leaves and fluff with a fork before serving.
