    Ingredients to make Kadala Curry:

    1 cup kala chana soaked overnight and drained, 1 tbsp coriander seeds, 1 tsp fennel seeds, 3/4 cup grated coconut, 1½ tbsp oil, ½ cup chopped onions, 1 cup chopped tomatoes, 1/4 tsp turmeric powder, salt to taste, ½ tsp mustard seeds, 5 curry leaves

    Steps to make Kadala Curry:

    1. Dry roast the coriander seeds and fennel seeds on a medium flame for 3 minutes. Cool and blend along with the coconut and ½ cup of water to form a smooth paste.

    2. Combine the chana, salt and 2 cups of water in a pressure cooker and pressure cook for 4 whistles.

    3. Heat 1 tbsp of oil, add the onions and sauté for 3 to 4 minutes.

    4. Add the tomatoes, prepared paste and turmeric powder and saute for 6-7 minutes, stirring occasionally.

    5. Add the chana along with the water in which they are cooked and salt, and cook on a medium flame for 6 to 8 minutes.

    6. For the tempering, heat the remaining ½ tbsp of oil and add the mustard seeds and curry leaves. Saute for a few seconds, pour over the curry and serve hot.
