Ingredients to make Kothamalli Thuvayal:
4 cups coriander leaves, 3 tbsp chana dal, 3 tbsp urad dal, 2 red chiles, a pinch of asafoetida, ¼ cup grated coconut, 1 small lemon sized tamarind, salt to taste, and 1 tbsp. oil
Steps to make Kothamalli Thuvayal:
1. Clean and wash the coriander leaves under running water. Roughly chop it and keep it aside
2. Heat oil in a pan and add the channa dal and urad dal. Fry them on medium heat and roast the lentils till it turns slightly brown.
3. Then add the red chiles, hing, tamarind, grated coconut, and fry them all for a minute
4. Switch off the flame. Quickly add the chopped coriander leaves and saute them for 1-2 minutes on the switch off flame mode. Let it cool down.
5. Grind it to a coarse paste once the mixture gets cooled down.
6. Add salt as per taste.
Yummy Kothamalli Thuvayal is now ready to be served with dosa or idli.
