Methi Malai Matar

This is a popular Punjabi main course dish that your kids will relish due to its sweet and spicy flavor. It is made in the gravy of cream and matar adds to sweetness and richness in this gravy along with the flavor of methi.

    Ingredients to make Methi Malai Matar:

    1½ cups of methi leaves, 1/4 tsp of garam masala, 3 tsp ghee, 1 tsp poppy seeds, 2 cardamom pods, 2 garlic cloves, 1 piece ginger, 1 green chilli, 1½ tbsp broken cashew nuts, 1 chopped onion, 1 tsp cumin seeds, 1/4 cup water, 1/4 cup milk, ½ cup cream, 1 cup green peas half boiled, chopped coriander leaves for garnishing

    Steps to make Methi Malai Matar:

    1. Heat some oil in a pan and splutter cumin seeds and add green chilies.

    2. Add ginger and garlic and saute for a minute.

    3. Add chopped onion, cashews and poppy seeds. Roast till onions become translucent.

    4. Blend the mixture to make a smooth paste.

    5. Now roast this mixture till the aroma goes away.

    6. Add milk and water to this paste and bring it to a boil.

    7. Now add chopped methi leaves, boiled green peas and mix well.

    8. Let it cook for 2 minutes and keep it covered.

    9. Add cream to this mixture and let it simmer for 5 minutes.

    10. Add garam masala and garnish with coriander leaves.

    Serve hot with paranthas.
