Mysore Masala Dosa

You do not have to go to a restaurant now to get yourself and your little one a delicious Mysore Masala Dosa. You can use this recipe to cook this scrumptious dish at home. In addition, it is very healthy as it is made using rice, which is a rich source of carbohydrates, protein, calcium, iron, Vitamin B6 and magnesium.

    Ingredients: 2 cups regular rice, ½ cup urad dal, ½ cup cooked rice, ¼ tsp methi seeds, salt, water, 2 large potatoes boiled and mashed, ¾ cup chopped onions, 1 inch ginger chopped, 2 garlic chopped, 12-15 curry leaves, 1 green chilli chopped, 2/3 tsp. black mustard seeds, ½ tsp turmeric powder, a pinch of red chilli powder, a pinch of hing, ½ tsp lemon juice, ½ cup water, 2 tbsp. chopped coriander leaves, 1 tbsp. oil, salt, 2 tbsp. roasted chana dal, 4-5 garlic cloves, 2-4 dry red chillies, 1 tsp seedless tamarind, salt. 

    Steps

     1. Soak the rice, urad dal and methi seeds in water for about 5 hours. 

     2. Drain and put them into a mixer jar along with the cooked rice and grind into a smooth batter. 

     3. Remove the batter into a bowl, cover and set aside for 10-12 hours. 

     4. Heat some oil in a pan and splutter the mustard seeds. Add the chopped onions, ginger, garlic, curry leaves, green chillies and sauté for a few minutes. Add turmeric powder, hing and salt and mix well. 

     5. Add the mashed potatoes and mix well with the rest of the ingredients. 

     6. Remove in a bowl and set aside. 

     7. To prepare the red chutney, put the chana dal, 4-5 garlic cloves, 2-4 dry red chillies and tamarind into a mixer jar and grind with very little water. 

     8. Remove in a bowl and set aside. 

     9. After the batter has fermented, heat a griddle with some oil on it and pour the dosa batter. 

     10. Sprinkle some oil on the top and wait for the base to get crispy. Now pout the red chutney and place a bit of the mashed potato masala in the centre. 

     11. Fold the dosa and serve it with coconut chutney or sambar.
