This dal is spicy and very nutritious for your kid as this contains a mixture of 5 dals in total. Its flavor is unique and it is an apt. meal for your kid during lunchtime, full of protein.

Ingredients to make Panchmel Dal:

1/4 cup split bengal gram (chana dal), whole green gram (sabut moong), split black skinless gram (dhuli urad), split pigeon pea (arhar dal) and whole red lentils (lal masoor), ½ tsp turmeric powder, salt to taste, 2 chopped green chilies, grated ginger, a pinch of hing, ½ tsp cumin seeds, 4-5 cloves, 2 red dried chiles, 1 tsp cumin powder, 1 tsp coriander powder, ½ tsp red chili powder, 2 chopped tomatoes, ½ tsp garam masala, and chopped coriander

Steps to make Panchmel Dal:

1. Soak the dals in 3 cups of water for 2 hours. Pressure cook them in 3 cups of water and add some salt and turmeric powder to it.

2. Now heat ghee in a pan and add ginger and chilli to it.

3. Add hing, cumin seeds, cloves and red chilies as well.

4. Add cumin powder, coriander powder and red chilli powder and saute them well.

5. Add tomatoes and cook them well till they turn soft and start leaving ghee.

6. Now add boiled dal to this mixture and give it a nice stir.

7. Add salt and water as required and let it boil on low flame for 10 minutes.

8. Add garam masala when the dal is ready and garnish with coriander leaves.

Serve it hot with roti or paratha.
